How to Create a Home Spa Experience: Relax and Pamper Yourself at Home

You'll often hear us say on the Murad Skin Deep Blog that creating a home spa day is an important part of both a skin care regimen and stress-relief as part of the Emotional Self Care™ pillar of Inclusive Health™. However, we've never given you real advice on the best way to set up a home spa for yourself. Here's a step-by-step guide on creating a spa in your very own home.

Inclusive Health Advice: Home Spa Tips

Step One: The Space
You'll obviously need to utilize your bathroom as part of your home spa day. After all, you'll be doing both skin care and body care treatments that will require a sink or even a shower. However, you'll want more space than just your bathroom if you can arrange it. If your bathroom connects to your bedroom, then that's ideal. However you manage it, you'll want an area where you can have access to a sink and a shower as well as an area where you can stretch out for more space. Once you've identified the space that you'll need, make it relaxing by doing the following;

Tip: Consider outdoor space as well!
If you have access to an outdoor patio or yard, consider using outdoor space in your home spa day as well! The fresh air and outdoor plants and scenery can be extremely calming (weather permitting!).

Step Two: The Ambiance
Of course, one of the biggest draws of a spa is the ambiance that completely relaxes you. You can accomplish this goal at home, too. Here are some tips.

Step Three: The Products
Of course, what makes a spa a spa is the products that you use. So what should you stock up on if you want a spa experience at home? Here are our tips.

A body scrub and a lotion. You want to relax your entire body. Begin by emulating the same body scrub that you'd get in a spa. You can buy a body scrub, but there are also plenty of recipes for making your own sugar or salt scrub at home. After you enjoy your body scrub in the shower, be sure to hydrate your body with a lotion. Pick either a relaxing scent like lavender or an energizing scent like ginger.

A refreshing cleanser. As you begin your home spa treatment on your face, you'll want to make sure that you begin with clean skin that feels light and refreshed. Consider Murad Energizing Pomegranate Cleanser. The lightweight foam formulation is ideal for all skin types, washes clean and leaves you feeling refreshed.

A home facial or face mask. The focus of your home spa day will be, of course, your facial. Which one is right for you? That depends on your skin type and need. Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel is a Vitamin-C face mask that brightens skin and leaves you feeling energized and alive. Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask improves cell turnover, smells delicious and both relaxes and energizes for all skin types. If your skin is acne-prone, then your home spa facial is the perfect time for Murad Clarifying Mask, which uses Rare Earth Clays to draw impurities away from your skin. Finally, if you're beginning to experience the signs of Hormonal Aging or Genetic Aging, Murad Age Diffusing Firming Mask from the Resurgence® skin care line firms and lifts skin for a more youthful appearance. Choose your facial wisely as it's the best part of any home spa day!

A lightweight moisturizer. After you complete your home facial, you'll want to restore moisture to your skin. Pick a moisturizer that is lightweight, such as Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion or Murad Essential-C Day Moisture SPF 15 | PA ++. Skin hydration is a key part of both a healthy skin care regimen and a home spa day!

Step Four: Other Things to Remember
There are a few other things that you'll want to have handy or keep in mind during your home spa day!

There you have it! Of course, your home spa may include other tips, tricks or products. What's in your ideal home spa? Share it on our Facebook page or tweet us at @muradcares.
