MODEL BEHAVIOUR?
That evergreen "models-are-too-thin" fashion debate was kicked off this season by Fox news' discovery of the old wives tale - at least we mightily hope it's an old wives' tale - that some girls eat cotton wool to stay full. Far more surprising was the talk at Lacoste today male models competing in a back-room boxing competition here in New York last night at which, apparently, even blows to the face were allowed . This sounds rash in the extreme... don't they know their faces are their fortune? Luke Leitch, deputy fashion editor.

PACKHAM ON NYC FASHION
The US remains one of fashion's biggest commercial markets, and this is what draws British designers to try their luck here too. One of the Duchess of Cambridge's favourite designers, Kentish Town-based Jenny Packham, who specialises in show-stopping evening wear and bridal gowns, moved to New York Fashion Week from London three years ago. She says: "We have to be commercial about what we're doing: I show the clothes because I want them to sell, so that means presenting them in a way women can imagine themselves being seen wearing them."
She says sales have increased dramatically since coming to New York, "especially here in America. They respect you a lot more when you are out here on their own turf."
What would raise her profile still further would be the presence of Manhattan's most-discussed visitor of the moment: Pippa Middleton. Along with the debut show of Katie Holmes's collection on Wednesday morning, the presence of Pippa is New York's subject du jour : observers are on tenterhooks to see if she makes a front-row appearance. Packham will not be drawn on this, but does mention that her collection is inspired by Las Vegas. So it's a fair bet, at least, that Prince Harry won't be there. Luke Leitch, deputy fashion editor.

LACOSTE SERVES UP SOME ENTERTAINMENT
Designer Felipe Oliviera Baptista served up an entertaining collection riffing on tennis perfectly timed for the action underway at Flushing Meadow. Prints of tennis racquets, umpire's chairs, polo shirts and clay courts were deployed on bumbags (fannypacks in American), loosely tailored trousers, hooded cagoules, clean-cut shirts and fitted dresses featuring tennis-net mesh at the back. Less convincingly sporty were the leather, crocodile relief tracksuits, transparent jackets and strapless evening dresses - all shown to a sountrack of tennis balls being thwacked across court. TEAM TELEGRAPH LAND IN NYC
"So NYFW off to an excellent start" says Daily Telegraph fashion editor Lisa Armstrong. "My new strategy for light packing and avoiding heavy airline fees paid off handsomely - was seven kilos under. Now feeling bitter that I didn't pack more...or maybe not. The rooms at The Standard are so small and the closets even more minute, there were only two hangers in mine. But at least I got some. One fashion PR of a major European house didn't have a closet at all. As she said to the concierge: 'a room for a woman with no closet during fashion week? Are you insane?'."

FOOD ON-THE-GO
So, apparently the models are nibbling on 'deLISH' mixed berry pieces backstage. If we get these packs shipped over, do they include the bombshell body...?

KARLIE'S DAY OFF

Having taken a stylish turn in shows for Jason Wu and Rag & Bone yesterday, top model Karlie Kloss has tweeted that, *shock, horror* she's already taking a day off. But the 20-year-old Chicago native won't be spending the day baking her favourite cookies, instead she's been picked for a "great shoot".

BECKHAM FEELS THE BURN
Showing her GSOH, Victoria Beckham is obviously not getting much sleep in the run-up to her show, which takes place on Sunday at 10am. Last-minute fittings and emails, the immaculate one still has time for a genius Twit-pic…

STARS IN THEIR EYES

15-year-old starlet Hailee Steinfeld (left) has been busy - three shows already and counting; while reather endearingly, Team USA sprinter Sanya Richard-Ross took her two gold Olympic medals to the BCBG show and we've already been treated to an appearance by the newly engaged Kate Bosworth. KARDASHIANS JENNERS INVADE THE KATWALK

Looking like a couple of prom princesses, sisters Kendall (age 16) and Kylie Jenner (15) of Keeping up with the Kardashians TV fame, were models of honour at the Evening Sherri Hill show, which took place at the Grand Corridor of the Trump Tower. No sign of big sister Kim and her boyf Kanye on the front row though…. Photo: Getty

SWEET SUPERMODELS

Far from being jaded by catwalks, Victoria's Secret pin-up Erin Heatherton (above, right - and girlfriend of Leo DiCaprio) took to Twitter to express her gratitude, pride and a photo - just to convey her emotions towards designer Jason Wu. Click here to see the Jason Wu show in full

DOES MY HEAD LOOK BIG IN THIS?

...Or so we imagined that's what the less-than-impressed models backstage at the Noon by Noor were discussing. Ladies, don't you know you have to suffer for your art? Photo: Reuters

BRITS ABROAD: RAG & BONE

Was there a hint of the 'rag and bone man' - the label's namesake who collects unwanted items - in Britons' Marcus Wainwright and David Neville latest collection? Perhaps the fluid layering suggested as much, but elegant colour pops provided a suitably sport-luxe feel in this fresh show. Photos: Vladimir Potop

YOUNG CARRIE BRADSHAW AT FIRST FASHION SHOW*

*Well, we're talking of AnnaSophia Robb, the pretty blonde who has been cast as the young Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex And The City prequel The Carrie Diaries . The actress took in Jason Wu then performed a quick outfit change for Rebecca Minkoff. We think Carrie would approve. Photo: Getty

JASON WU'S BLACK SUMMER

Black, black and more black: Jason Wu, one of First Lady Michelle Obama's favourite designers, showed a fierce collection centred on monochrome with spike-adorned heels and handbags - and a sprinkling of bold honeysuckle. Carolyn Murphy (centre), the 37-year-old face of Estée Lauder, opened the show looking tanned and toned, and was joined by Victoria's Secret Angel Erin Heatherton (left) and our Brit 'babe' Cara Delevingne (right). HEIDI'S PROJECT

The season 10 finale of fashion reality TV show 'Project Runway' should have seen the spotlight placed on the competing designers, but German uber-model Heidi Klum hoovered up all the attention in a sparkling gown slashed to the navel. The 39-year-old mother of four was seen chatting to fellow judge Michael Kors as singer Jennifer Hudson took a front row seat of support.

FASHION'S FUN-FILLED NIGHT OUT

It's rare that you'd encounter Victoria Beckham, Anna Wintour, Karlie Kloss and Ryan Lochte all supporting the same cause, but the talented quartet each did their bit to promote the shopping extravaganza. Lochte was the natural host for 'Guy's Night Out', and Kloss baked several dozen of her famous oatmeal cookies, selling each for $5 apiece - which would provide 10 school meals via the anti-hunger charity FEED. HONOUR GIVES BIRTH TO ELEGANT COLLECTION

Honor's creative director and CEO Giovanna Randall - the opera singer turned pre-medical student turned luxury designer - was inspired by the phenomenon of the human anatomy after giving birth to her first child this year, report Style.com. A typically feminine collection ensued, with delicate references to the body across the range of floor-sweeping gowns and elegant skirts. Photos: Getty

NOT BY JENNY LAI

If you thought New York Fashion Week were an uber-commercial bunch, think again. Not By Jenny Lai's presentation, showcased at the Highline Loft, saw models decked out in generous lashing of tulle, asymmetric cuts and patterned sunglasses. Best of all the palette fused lilac, mauve and honeysuckle. Perhaps the Upper East Siders won't be tempted out of their power suits by it, but we're hoping the folk of Brooklyn will. Photo: Getty
