Maurie & Eve Get Uncharacteristically Moody for A/W 2013

Maurie and Eve is more often revered for its girly dresses, but its uncharacteristically moody Autumn/Winter 2013 offering has us craving cooler temperatures even though it’s not even officially summer yet.

Designers Kelly Davies-Green and Maya Clemmensen are chanelling a newfound maturity this time around with a new collection aptly titled ‘Paradis Noir’. There’s nary a ruffle nor a floaty white frock in sight in the just-released lookbook. Instead, the frivolity of summer makes a premature departure to make room for deep autumnal reds and purples, though the most impressive pieces are anything baring that amazing basket weave print. Also dreamy in a less girly and more noir-ish manner is the cloudy print resembling an ominously dark sunset, and backless purple halter-neck jumpsuits have likely never been so appealing.

New Zealand-born, Sydney-based newcomer Gabby Westbrook-Patrick fronts the beautifully moody campaign, with Jordan Graham behind the lens. If only all comings of age were this graceful.

N-Dubz WILL be back! Phew!

n-dubz performing

This morning there was some speculation that it's all over for N-Dubz. We can tell you now that's NOT true!

A misinformed source blabbed that Dappy and Fazer wanted to carry on with their own projects rather than working as part of the band again, however we now know that there are plans for the group to work together in the future,

"Dappy and Tulisa met up recently to discuss an N-Dubz reunion which went very well. It's completely untrue that Dappy and Fazer have said no to the band getting back together," a spokesperson tells us.

"All three members are still 100% supportive of N-Dubz and have all publically stated their intention to reform for an album in the future."

Planet pop wouldn't be the same without N-Dubz!

What to Wear Over 40 To A Wedding Reception

over-40-cocktail-dress

The invitation has arrived. Now the big question is “What will I wear?”

It’s all about the bride on her wedding day, but that doesn’t mean that you, as a guest, shouldn’t look fabulous, too.

What to wear over 40 to a wedding reception depends on several factors, including the venue and the time of day that the wedding will occur.  A beach wedding taking place at 1:00 pm is likely to be more casual than a country club wedding occurring at 6 pm. Regardless of the time and place, all wedding receptions require a certain degree of decorum.

Women have more flexibility and options when it comes to dressing for a wedding reception. A skirt and a blouse or dressy slacks and a top are both acceptable options. However, we love a dress for a dressy occasion.

Here is our suggestion for an outfit that will make a statement and keep you comfortable:

Start with a dress. When choosing a dress for a wedding reception, DO NOT choose a white one or one that is low-cut or too short. You also want to avoid bright or busy prints. You want to be noticeable, but not in a negative way. If you are wondering how to dress to camouflage your belly, this gathered crepe dress is the perfect selection since it has wonderful detailing that dresses it up and hides a tummy. The attractive neckline and cut of the sleeves, a combination that is difficult to find in cocktail dresses for women over 40, will highlight your upper body without making you feel overexposed. Choose a length that is cut just above or just below the knee, making you look fabulous after 40.

Pair it with sandals. These metallic, gold platform sandals add the perfect amount of glitter to the solid colored dress if you are wondering what to wear over 40 to a wedding reception. You’ll want to hit the dance floor so be sure you can move comfortably in the shoes that you choose.

Accessorize with simple jewelry. Let your shoes set the tone for your jewelry. A gold bangle and a pair of gold, lace dangle earrings are the perfect accompaniment to the dress and shoes. Keep the earrings to a reasonable length, no more than 2″ below your earlobe.

Add a colorful clutch. Leave your everyday bag at home and opt for something more elegant. A colorful clutch is the perfect choice for the occasion. The peacock feather detail on the above clutch adds a pop of color that ties in beautifully with the shoes and jewelry.

Berenice Marlohe Works The Peacock Eye Trend At The Skyfall Premiere In London

At the London premier of Skyfall the night before last (need to see it asap, don’t you?), we couldn’t believe it when brand new Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe turned up wearing the very same ‘peacock’ eye which we featured in last week’s issue.  What are the chances?! We can’t deny that we were left wondering whether the actress had in fact, been reading the mag and given the pictures to her makeup artist as a reference, so canny is the resemblance.

The ‘peacock eye’ trend first popped up on the autumn winter 2012 catwalks, where we bore witness to a whole host of takes on trend from London to Paris, New York and Milan. Make-up teams at Prada, Roberto Cavalli, John Galliano and Prabal Gurung all conjured up their own versions of the look, which had beauty editors swooning madly.  Miss Marlohe's take on the trend?  A very gorgeous, navy, burgundy, green and black blend which she paired with a red strapless gown and chandelier earrings.

While we were initially of the opinion that this particular look might be one of those trends that should be reserved soley for the model community, a speedy research session revealed that this is absolutely not the case – this beauty is in fact, surprisingly wearable.  When you know how, that is...

Luckily for you lovely lot, we just so happened to team up with our beauty shoot artist and international makeup maestro Maxine Leonard to produce a video taking you behind the scenes at the shoot and allowing you to hone your 'peacocky' application techniques while you are at it.  The pleasure’s all ours of course…

What do you think of Berenice’s Beauty look and would you be tempted to trial the trend?

Designer Dossier: Naeem Khan

Designer Naeem KhanWhile Naeem Khan's gorgeous gowns have already graced the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker, to name a few among the glittering fans, the brand is still relatively unknown on the overall market, a result of Khan's exclusive clientele and designs which are all hand-embroidered, rather than a testament to his incredible talent. Talent, a trait that evidently runs in Khan's blood, was influenced by Khan's upbringing in India, where he watched both his father and grandfather design intricate eveningwear for society's elite, including the royal family. As a result, Khan cultivated vast knowledge of textiles and ornamentation, an education that would eventually pave the way to the launch of his luxe collection. While Khan inherited his propensity for luxury and opulence from his family, he developed modern skill sets, like the secrets of draping and cutting clean timeless silhouettes, from his apprenticeship at Halston.

Khan's hard work and extensive training led to the launch of his eponymous line, Naeem Khan, in 2003. His line was bought by Bergdorf Goodman, Harrods, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue, all high-end retailers who cater to affluent clients who immediately took a liking to Khan's luxe evening gowns. Cut to a few short years later, Khan's brand reaches another level of success and fame after his strapless metallic gown is seen on Michelle Obama during the Presidential State Dinner in March 2010. Khan, like many of today's American eveningwear designers including Reem Acra and Jenny Packham, is changing the way we look at the gown. No longer relegated to clean black minimalist silhouettes or the other extreme, cookie-cutter ornamental ballgowns, eveningwear aesthetics have expanded greatly.

While Khan is considered an established designer and one of New York Fashion Week's must-watch collections, the talented designer continues to show artistic growth and perspective when it comes to his creations. For his Spring 2013 collection, Khan's ballroom gowns took a backseat as the designer focused on daywear. Satin sweater coats decorated with black and white leather appliques complemented white cotton pants, while floral organza belted shirtdresses took on a glamorous turn as a result of their to-the-floor lengths. And because a collection isn't Naeem Khan-worthy without an adequate supply of glitz, sparkling beads accented a rainbow of caftans. If history has its way of repeating itself, it won't be long until Khan's colorful caftans help develop a whole new breed of elegant and glamorous daywear.

Twitterati Fashion Recap: Prabal Gurung for Target, Karl Insults French President, and More

This week on #Twitterati, Target announces its upcoming collaboration with Prabal Gurung, Karl Lagerfeld does serious damage control after insulting France's president, and Derek Zoolander heads to Europe for the movie sequel. For more #Twitterati goodness, including who said what, when, and why, read up on the most happening fashion moments, events, and quotes in the Twittersphere.

Earlier this week, Styleite tweeted, "Guess who's collaborating with @Target? Hint: he's got @MichelleObama AND Kate Middleton's stamp of approval." Guesses anyone? "The latest designer to team up with @TargetStyle is...@prabalgurung! We. Are. So. Pumped," tweeted Glamour. Dying to know how the rest of the fashion world responded to this latest collaboration? Only one way to find out.

Elle tweeted, "Wow! @PrabalGurung is designing about 80 pieces for @TargetStyle." InStyle added, "Big news: @Target just announced @prabalgurung as its newest designer collaboration. We can't wait!" Others weren't quite as enthused. The Fashion Spot tweeted, "Prabal Gurung is getting a Target collab and other things I don't care about today." However, we can all agree on one thing regarding this upcoming collaboration which Vogue referenced via their tweet, “It’s almost like a rite of passage for new, young designers."

KISSING: Olly Murs and Keith Lemon!

In jest, Olly Murs tried to bump'n'grind with Nicole Scherzinger on Xtra Factor over the weekend and failed. Nicole proclaimed, "My boyfriend is backstage somewhere, you trying to get me into trouble or something?!"

So it seems resorting to kissing Keith Lemon is on an equal par with the ex-Pussy Cat Doll!

Keith posed the thought, on Celebrity Juice, that he could kiss for ages and cheeky Paloma Faith nominated Olly to test Keith's theory out.

Poor Olly seemingly tried to break loose but could not get out of Keith's tight lock before he used his tongue! We love the fun and frolics of Celeb Juice and this clip is undeniably LOLable.

Alongside co-presenters, Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby, guest judges included the tester Paloma Faith, Rick Edwards and Caroline Flack.

Check out the clip above for all the gory details!

Watch the next episode of Celebrity Juice this Thursday 25th October, ITV2.

Cher is set to perform during X Factor final and all because of Ella Henderson

Cher-is-set-to-perform-during-X-Factor-final-and-all-because-of-Ella-Henderson

Well, X Factor is shaping up to be quite the show this year, isn’t it?

It’s been reported that after falling for Ella Henderson following her version of Believe, Cher has agreed to perform on the show.

It’s not just her who’s been won over this year though; The Killers and Beyonce are also apparently up for it.

Ok we knew Beyonce was already but the more we say it the more likely it is to happen.

According to an ‘insider’: 'It's an X Factor tradition to get great names for the final and Simon was determined to pull out all the stops,'

We’re not sure Cher is what we’d call ‘pulling out all the stops’ but Beyonce, we’re already bloody excited about her.

Pandora to Support Girls Aloud's New Tour

Girls Aloud is Britain’s most successful girl band to date (and we bet you were thinking that it was the Spice Girls!), who haven’t actually appeared in public as a five-some in around three whole years. So, when their dedicated fans saw that a countdown had recently commenced on the band’s official website, gossip was rife as to what the special announcement was going to be today.

New Track Leaked
The whole countdown thingy didn’t go exactly to plan though, as some spoilsport ruined the fun by leaking the girls’ brand new track before intended (boooo!) and so, the girls decided to officially release it a little bit earlier. What news did come today was the fact that they are also planning a twelve date arena tour, as well as releasing a greatest hits album called Ten, which pays homage to the fact that it was actually ten years ago that the group formed on the reality television show, Pop Stars the Rivals. The girls broke this exclusive news (below) at a press launch inside a swish London hotel, and sadly, it’s also being rumoured that this will be the last time that the girls will reform — ever!

Tour Outfits
The exciting news of a brand new tour, after such a long break, has already got us wondering what their tour outfits will look like. The girls' own personal styles have come a long way from when they originally started out, with the girls themselves even admitting that their old fashion disasters still make them cringe. So, we can rest assured that their forthcoming tour will be a lot more fashionable, but here's a pic just to remind you of exactly how they used to look!

Pandora to Support Their Forthcoming Tour
It’s also been exclusively announced that jeweller Pandora is set to support the girls’ much anticipated tour and have been working with each of the band members to create their own limited-edition charm bracelets, with each set to feature a charm that will evoke their own personal memory or experience. We can't wait to snap one up...or five!

Skin Care Zombie Apocalypse Guide

Is the zombie apocalypse a real thing? Of course not, despite the fact that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has prepared a zombie survival guide for you just in case! However, in the Halloween spirit, we at Murad would like to be as prepared as the CDC. If you wake up on October 31st having found yourself turned into a zombie, here are some key skin care tips and guidelines that you'll want to be sure to follow!

Skin Care Advice: Zombie Skin Care

Oil-Free Moisturizer is a Zombie's Best Friend
Dead skin doesn't produce moisture! That means that your zombie complexion is likely to be a bit flakey. However, an oily moisturizer on skin that doesn't exfoliate its top layer away is probably eventually going to just build up, clog pores and cause acne breakouts. Put a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer into your zombie survival kit so that you can restore topical hydration to your skin in a way that won't just eventually contribute to zombie blemishes.

Recommended Product: Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion

This lightweight moisturizer delivers topical hydration without clogging pores.

Skin Care Advice: Zombie Skin Care

Customer Review
"I love the skin Perfecting Lotions. I had some minor breakouts using other moisturizers but with Skin Perfecting Lotion, I have smooth, moisturized, clear skin. I recommend it to anyone needing to moisturize but with problem skin. I don’t want to do without it." Nana3, Virginia

Sun Protection Doesn't Stop When You're the Living Dead
Once you're the living dead, the skin that you've got is the skin that you've got! Your body functions stop, so new skin cells won't be created to replace older skin cells that are damaged and have lost their luster. Since you'll probably be spending a lot of time randomly wandering around outside, that means potential sun damage to your skin. Don't end up with dry, sun-damaged zombie skin! Use a moisturizer with SPF and PA protection as well as waterproof and full-body sun block and sunscreen products. More than ever, you only have one body, so protect it!

Recommended Product: Murad Waterproof Sunblock SPF 30

Who knows when you'll be able to take shelter from the sun, rain and weather during the zombie apocalypse? This sun block will protect you no matter what outdoor weather you encounter!

Skin Care Advice: Zombie Skin Care

Customer Review
"I have very fair skin, and burn easily. This product was the best investment I ever made to protect my skin against the sun! I recently traveled to the Dominican Republic and Mexico, I used this sun block and my skin did not burn. I am convinced this is the best sun protection for my fair skin type" shortblond, New Jersey

Even Your Skin Tone with a Makeup or Primer
If there's one thing that we all know from watching zombie movies, it's that dead skin has a pale look with no radiant glow. Throw a Murad Skin Perfecting Primer into your zombie survival kit, preferably one with a dash of color (Absolute Bronzing Boost) or a hydrating element (Dewey Finish). There's no need for zombie skin to not be radiant skin!

Recommended Product: Murad Hybrids® Skin Perfecting Primer Dewey Finish
Even your skin tone while adding a dewey finish that makes you look alive again!

Skin Care Advice: Zombie Skin Care

Customer Review
"I read about this primer in a magazine review and couldn’t believe until I tried it myself. They were right, it is great! I actually use the primer as my foundation and it stays with me all day. Only wish it came in a bigger bottle!!" 30somethingskin, Tennessee

Fade Away Marks from Wounds
In the zombie apocalypse, there will be some zombie-to-zombie fighting. Possibly even some biting. Those wounds can leave dark, hyper-pigmented spots on your skin. Since your skin isn't living and constantly renewing those areas anymore, those spots will only disappear if you actively fade them. Want an unflawed zombie face? Be sure to keep a skin lightener and pigment fading product on hand.

Recommended Product: Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum
Hydroquinione, the strongest skin lightening agent available without a prescription, will rapidly fade away hyper-pigmented areas left over from attacks from other zombies or human survivors!

Skin Care Advice: Zombie Skin Care

Customer Review
"Best skin lightening gel I have ever used! My family started noticing after using only 1 bottle that my dark spots were almost completely gone. Now that I’m on my 3rd bottle you can barely tell I ever had a dark spot to remove." optimistic, Missouri

We all hope that the zombie apocalypse isn't coming, but this Halloween season, be prepared! Next to the water purification tablets, crossbow and freeze-dried survival food, be sure to have the skin care products that you'll need to be better every day (of the zombie apocalypse).
